Software Engineer (UNIX/SQL)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide all facets of support concerning Retail POS Web applications such as, but not limited to, incident investigation and resolution, minor work enhancement delivery, permanent fixes identification and delivery, and support tools development.
  • Be assigned with different support roles that ensure that all issues received related to the application supported by the team within the shift are addressed such as abends, user reported incidents, and other ad-hoc tasks
  • Act as Handling Resource/Implementer of service requests and enhancements of applications supported by the team
  • Provide timely updates to the requester while keeping the functional leads, Managers, BSMs, and other concerned parties in the loop. This includes any changes that may affect delivery and other relevant/pertinent information.
  • Coordinate with other IT groups and/or external vendors to address application issues
  • Maintain and update workarounds and proactive management of supported applications or Configuration Items in knowledge database.
  • Perform proactive support services which may result in early detection of incidents
  • Participate in projects and take on roles such as Validator, Designer, Tester and/or Implementer as needed
  • Communicate with external and internal customers onshore via email, IM or conference calls in a daily basis or as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related courses
  • At least two (2) years of working experience doing application support
  • Must be willing to do Production (Application) Support
  • Thinks creatively in investigating or troubleshooting application issues and in identifying and developing solutions
  • Must have knowledge in scripting (Batch, Unix, or Python)
  • Must have basic knowledge in SQL
  • Knowledge in 4690 OS is a plus
  • Knowledge in Java, Oracle WebLogic, JavaScript, Spring, or WMQ/WMB is a plus
  • Must be analytical, details oriented, and skillful in documentation
  • Must be amendable to work on 24×7 support model (shifting, including holidays)
  • Must have excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Easily adapts to changing work load and assignments depending on the demand
  • Must be proactive and takes initiative on handling tasks
  • Must have a high degree of personal integrity
